Welcome Prospective Students

Are you interested in robotics, optimization, machine learning, dynamics, control, and design? Do you want to create robots that can learn like humans? Are you interested in working on robot exoskeletons that could augment human physical ability similar to smartphones augmenting human communication ability? If these questions motivate you then I encourage you to apply for one of our open positions.

Ph.D. Students

Ph.D. positions are available for highly motivated students with a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, and Computer Science. A strong background in at least one of the following areas is essential to work in the Braun Lab: mechanics, dynamics, machine learning, computer science, programming, physics, mathematical modeling, mechanical design, mechatronics. Prior research experience is indispensable, also a published paper at an international conference (IEEE ICRA, IEEE IROS, R:SS) or journal (IEEE T-RO, IEEE T-Mech, IEEE TNSRE, IEEE TAC, Automatica, IJRR, APS PRE, and others) is a definite advantage.

First, apply to our Ph.D. program and then send a short introduction with your CV to david.braun[@]vanderbilt.edu [Subject line: Ph.D.].

You are encouraged to notify me when you apply to our open positions such that I can easily find and review your application, but please be patient because the admission process takes time. Also, I may not be able to reply to all inquiries, as I receive multiple per day.

Undergraduate Students

We are excited to involve Undergraduate and Master’s students in our research projects. Please check out our guidelines to apply for a research position and the expectations to work with us on research problems here. You are encouraged to notify me when you apply to one of our open positions such that I can review your application, but please be patient because the admission process takes time. Undergraduate or M.S. research opportunities are available without financial support, unless you apply to one of our funded research opportunities, for example, the Undergraduate Summer Research Program at Vanderbilt.

Apply to our Undergraduate Research opportunities by sending your introduction and CV to david.braun[@]vanderbilt.edu [Subject line: UR].
